Fake news. Cats and dogs. Travel pictures. It’s hard to believe that this same platform is actually one of the most powerful business tools in existence. But it is.
Nearly one third of Facebook users engage with brands regularly. That means more than 700 MILLION people are interacting with brands regularly via this platform.
But marketing Facebook for business is extremely complex, and if you don’t get it right (especially the ads), it can get very time consuming (and expensive).
In this guide, we’ll show you step-by-step how to market your company on Facebook the right way and start attracting hordes of new customers.
How to Use Facebook for Business: Start Here –
Build Your Facebook Business Page the Right Way
Facebook has 3 types of tools for your business: pages, ads, and groups (groups are EXTREMELY important. We cover those further below). When it comes to Facebook for business, your company’s homepage is the center of your social media solar system.
So it’s crazy that we see so many business pages done COMPLETELY WRONG. In order for people to take time out of looking for something to be outraged about, you’ve got to stand out. Here’s how:
- Use a Profile Photo: It seems so simple, but so many businesses either neglect to put a picture or use some second-rate photo. Don’t be these people. Use a high-quality, highly recognizable photo. One that will catch a user’s eye.
- Choose the Right Cover Photo: Your cover photo is the large photo that hangs over your page. It should capture the essence of your brand. L.L Bean’s shows people traversing untamed rapids in some far-flung destination. Burt’s Bees (can’t live without it) has a woman applying their lifesaving balm to her lips. See what we mean?
- Fill Out Your About Section: Listen closely. Fill out your “About” section! Add a story, give people major details like contact info and your website. Let everyone know what your brand is “about”.
Tip: Your Facebook profile can appear in search engine results too. Sprinkle in a few keywords around your page and make sure to link back to your profile from your website. Oh, and add your location information. It all helps boost your ranking!
Now that you’ve got your page up and running, it’s time to start giving your customers something to click about and getting your name out there.
Here’s what to do:
1. Pin an Important Post: Facebook allows you to “pin” posts so they don’t slip down your timeline as the days go by. The most savvy companies use this space for important posts that make their visitor’s lives easier. You could try:
- An image that beckons your visitors to “like” the page (more on calls to action in a bit!)
- An FAQ
- An exciting offer (like our page and get your FREE 10% off coupon)
- A “lead magnet” blog post such “the Ultimate Guide to Facebook for Business ;).
2. Add a “Call to Action (CTA): A CTA suggests your visitors do something. It could be “book now”, “set up a consultation”, “schedule a meeting”. Add a button with a CTA to your page for the best results. The Facebook default is “Send Message”. You can do better than that! NOTE: Always be available for chatting with customers on Facebook. Customers expect you to reply within one hour and Facebook lets them know your average response time.
3. Start Liking Other Pages: Search throughout your local area and within your industry. Like other pages and begin interacting with them by commenting on their posts. DO NOT promote your business in these comments.
How to Promote Your Business on Facebook
Now that you’ve waded into the deep and murky waters of Facebook marketing, it’s time to promote your page heavily. The good news is that most of the best advertising if free. First, add a “connect with us” button to your website and promote your page via other outlets (Twitter, Pinterest, etc.).
From there, you need to give users a reason to come. It all comes down to creating valuable content. Facebook users LOVE great content. Here are 5 of the best kinds:
- Videos: Video is the be all end all. Create useful videos about your business or entertaining videos that people will want to watch or share. It can be anything. Just do it!
- Blogs: Write helpful blogs for your audience and make sure to optimize them for local search (if you’re a local business). Don’t be shy about blogging about non-business topics too.
- Other people’s content: Share some of the best stuff you find across the web even if it isn’t about your industry.
- Memes: Yeahhh, if you could just share that meme for me this Friday, that’d be great!
- Images: Like memes, images are powerful visual tools that get people to click. Share inspirational quotes, stats, or just nice pics of your premises or job site.
Pro Tip: Facebook groups are an extremely important and underutilized way to promote your business for free. Join groups that are related to your industry and participate frequently. Offer to solve problems and offer free content in the group. People will come in no time. We know one company who gave a free webinar in a marketing group only to take on 5 full-time clients as soon as the webinar finished. #BeastMode!
A Quick Guide to Facebook Ads
You could write a 50,000 word guide on Facebook ads and not cover everything, so here is a TL;DR: set a budget and target the right audience.
Facebook ads are intimidating. But if you do them right, you’ll see big returns. Here are a few tips:
- Set your objectives: Know what you’re trying to accomplish first. Are you trying to sell products, get more followers, create a trend, or what?
- Target your audience: You can target your audience all the way down to the minute detail. Want to target fitness freaks that have recently moved within a 3 mile radius of your gym? You can do that. Target that audience AND your ad copy specifically to them.
- Choose the proper format: Video is often the highest performing ad form on Facebook, but it can get expensive. Single image ads will do just fine.
- Test & Test again: This can be difficult if you’re new, but you have to test your ads. Create multiple ad formats, multiple ad copies, and multiple target demographics. Analyze your results and don’t be afraid to change it up if things aren’t working.
Marketing Facebook for business isn’t easy, but this is a great start. Use these tips and your business will start seeing big benefits from Facebook at a fraction of normal advertising prices!
